Students will work on all aspects of the PCLA yearbook. This course may be taken multiple times.

Some units covered are: physical health, nutrition, fitness and exercise, basic first aid, infectious and non-infectious diseases, mental health, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, life management, social health, and maturity. Parents should be advised that this course will include open and honest discussions on health topics. The physiology of human sexuality is not discussed. Purity, dating, and courtship are discussed. The dangers and effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco will be discussed in detail. All the topics pertaining to health and life are carefully presented according to Biblical principles.

This course is a study through the 39 books of the Old Testament. Students will chronologically trace God’s providential dealings with His people Israel from the time of the patriarchs to Israel’s return after the Babylonian exile.

This course will examine the world's religions, including history, beliefs, worship practices, and contemporary expressions from a Christian perspective. We will highlight the similarities and differences as well as the challenging issues for each religion.

This life skills course will teach students important skills for managing a household. It will cover topics including basic sewing, clothing construction, interior design, meal planning, kitchen safety, food preparation, hospitality, and household finances (like budgeting and balancing checking accounts). The course will be heavily project based but will include some research-based writing, worksheets, and a few written quizzes and tests.

The Bible speaks God’s word to His people -- both Old Testament and New Testament. It is a unified story that leads to Jesus, who has the power to change individuals and whole communities when we let the biblical story speak for itself. We will focus on the Bible's overarching themes and each book’s literary design and to understand the Bible in its historical context.

In this class we will cover the basic concepts in the field of sociology: the relationship of the individual to culture, groups, and major social institutions. We will examine contemporary social issues using a Christian worldview. We will cover the history of sociology, basic theories, and examine other cultures from a Christian perspective.

This class is designed to provide a close-up look at famous composers, their music, and their times with special attention to character traits and Christian testimony. Students will learn basic sight reading through playing the recorder and keyboard. All musical abilities will enjoy this class.

This course is designed for students who have no experience playing the guitar. Students will be introduced to the anatomy of the guitar, how to hold and tune the instrument, will play notes written for simple songs, and practice strumming techniques to accompany simple gospel songs. Students will also address the fundamentals of music theory.

This is a basic photography class that will emphasize the two main areas of technique and visual awareness. Students will learn about the functions found on a basic DSLR digital camera, photographic technique and visual composition. The teaching method will consist of lecture, video and demonstration. Students will be required to produce weekly assignments and more complex projects as well as participate in class discussions. Students must have a digital camera with manual settings. This course does not support Point and shoot cameras, no exceptions.

This course presents basic structure and grammar of the Spanish language and encourages learning by using games and other activities to engage the student in the course. Students will converse, read, and write in Spanish.

This class provides a systematic study of Latin Grammar. Latin provides a solid foundation in the study of all languages, increases vocabulary for testing purposes, and is a wonderful jump start for any student planning to study in any medical field. Students with learn in a fun and energized format 1st & 2nd Conjugation, Declension, Tense, & Case.

This elective course presents basic structure and grammar of the Spanish language and encourages conversation with the introduction of basic vocabulary. Concepts such as the calendar, seasons, classroom objects and school subjects, commands, numbers, colors, pronouns, introduction of conjugation, greetings, and a basic understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures will be taught. This class will provide a good foundation to students who will be taking Spanish 1.

Teaches American Sign Language to children with more than 300 essential signs, their English equivalents, and a picture translation.

Designed to provide students with the vocabulary and grammar skills they need to create language for communication. Students will converse, read and write in Spanish. Culture studies are integrated throughout.

A continuation of the skills and culture studies begun in Spanish 1, the text uses less English and more Spanish in its pedagogy, reflecting student progress in the language. Meets the standards for Foreign Language Learning set forth by the ACTFL.

This course is designed to introduce Latin to the student through a grammar based approach. Grammar will be taught systematically and workbook exercises will ensure mastery. Text and workbook will be supplemented with readings and lessons on Roman history, culture and geography, as well as Latin prayers and songs.

Second Form Latin continues the study of the Latin grammar in much the same format as First Form Latin. Units are organized in a logical, systematic order that maximizes understanding and retention. Workbook, Vocabulary and grammar exercises, as well as cultural and historical readings will reinforce the lessons taught in class.

Level 1 empowers Signing Naturally students to practice and reinforce their classroom learning. Includes vocabulary review of 1,000 signs, corresponding pictures and 100 key phrases. Units includes: Introducing Oneself, Exchanging Personal Information, Talking About Surroundings, Telling Where You Live, Talking About Your Family, Telling About Activities, Giving Directions, Describing Others, Making Requests, Talking About Family and Occupations, Attributing Qualities to Others, Talking About Routines DVD is not required but strongly recommended.

The course will focus on conversational Spanish.

Lessons will cover parts of speech, sentence structure, and rules of capitalization and punctuation. Basic elements of writing will be introduced as students learn to model original works using the imitation method.

Students will learn basic elements of writing such as writing basic sentences, writing paragraphs, and writing essays. Grammar will be enriched through sentence combining, modeling and editing. Students will have a chance to enhance writing knowledge through subject writing, creative writing and reports.

Students will review basic writing skills using a literature approach, in addition to traditional writing exercises. Topics covered will include: expository, narrative, and persuasive writing; research papers, including citation of sources; and poetry. Several classic short stories, poems, and novels will be studied.

Honors classes will be given more rigorous classwork and homework assignments. Introduction to a variety of literary genres with emphasis on literary elements, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Students will examine how ideas and writing styles have developed based on an author’s culture and learn how to look beyond the storyline to analyze works in light of a Christian world view. Students will develop critical reading and writing skills to develop a confident voice in both written assignments and classroom discussions.

This course will give students the opportunity to read and study various genres of literature written from the foundation of our nation through the modern period. Students will be expected to engage with the texts through discussion, writing, and projects. This course is a complete Language Arts course.

Students will focus on three separate units. In the Earth Science unit students will observe, measure, and communicate weather data to see patterns in weather and climate. In the Physical Science unit students will investigate light and sound. In the Life Science unit students will investigate the characteristics and basic needs of plants and animals. We will incorporate basic kindergarten and first grade writing and reading standards. This will be an interactive, hands on approach to Science.

Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures presents a scientifically sound and God-honoring study of Zoology 2 for grades K-6. God filled the Earth’s waters with animals great and small. Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day covers swimming creatures from the microscopic to the massive. No matter how near or far you live from the ocean, you and your students will wonder at God’s designs in the amazing aquatic animals He formed.

Topics covered include organism, classification, cellular biology, genetics, creation vs. evolution, microbiology, botany, zoology, ecology, and human anatomy. A science project is required.

Topics covered in our science units will include rocks and minerals, matter and energy, weather, biomes, ecosystems, sound and light, respiratory and circulatory systems.

Using a combination of lecture and laboratory activities, this course introduces scientific investigation, cellular biology, biochemistry, energy relationships, homeostasis, genetics, heredity, biotechnology, microbiology, classification, taxonomy, origins, comparative physiology, ecology, botany, and zoology.

The course covers significant figures, units, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium. Course will include lectures and labs.

Science is the application to the investigation of crime scenes. It includes the investigation of fingerprinting, fiber analysis, ballistics, arson, trace evidence analysis, poisons, drugs, blood spatters, and blood samples. Students will learn the scientific protocols for analyzing a crime scene, how to use chemical and physical separation methods to isolate and identify materials. How to analyze biological evidence and the criminal use of tools, including impressions from firearms, tool marks, arson, and explosive evidence.​

Students will have an introduction to United States history through the study of selected historical figures. In the history strand, students study the important contributions each historical person made. In the geography strand, students learn about where these historical people lived and explore important basic geographic concepts and including a study of maps. The civics strand provides a study of the positive character traits exhibited by these important historical figures. We will incorporate Wee Sing America Songs and have a fun wax museum character exhibit at the end of the year. We will incorporate basic kindergarten and first grade writing and reading standards.

We will study leaders from Christopher Columbus to Martin Luther King, Jr., to give your child a chronological understanding of great leaders in American history. With 22 biographical excerpts of Presidents, generals, preachers, pioneers, and more, your child can observe the character-building qualities of these leaders. Comprehension questions, timelines, terms and definitions, “Stop and Think” sections and maps of where these honorable people lived give your child facts to remember and traits like honesty, courage, and bravery to model in his life.

This course tells the story of Georgia—its history, culture, and geography—in the context of the American nation, and its state and local government in the context of American democracy.

This course begins with the time period before Europeans came to what is now the U.S. and takes students on an exciting journey through the history of the people, places, and events that shaped U.S. history until the late 1800s.

This course is designed to increase the student’s understanding and knowledge of world geography. Students will be exposed to a physical-cultural study of the Earth. Students will learn about different continents and their features such as vegetation and wildlife, national flags and profiles, cultural insights, famous locations, and famous people that have lived on that continent. Students will be taught about the different cultures of these continents through readings, videos, films, music, food, etc. The course will include the studying of maps, map skills, cities, landforms, bodies of water including rivers. Also, the effects of human interaction, history, religion and politics will be discussed. Assignments will include basic text book assignments, practical application activities, map activities, and geographical projects.
