Understanding Art

This “art appreciation” course continues study in areas of art: elements, composition, and art history. After a brief review of the elements and composition studied, students will receive concentrated instruction in different art forms throughout history. Students will experience a deeper understanding of art forms and use of medium, such as: drawing still life; portrait and landscape; painting with watercolor, acrylics, and tempera; sculpture; textiles; and collage.
Students will maintain an Art Notebook for handouts and an Art Portfolio throughout the year. Text will be provided for rental fee ($15).

Guitar

This course is designed for students who have no experience playing the guitar. Students will be introduced to the anatomy of the guitar, how to hold and tune the instrument, will play notes written for simple songs, and practice strumming techniques to accompany simple gospel songs. Students will also address the fundamentals of music theory.

In this course, students will find that Earth Science is also a battle of worldviews. Students will be introduced to the secular theories of where everything they see came from. Students’ Christian worldviews will be shaped and strengthened as they learn about tectonic processes, landforms and earth materials, fossils, the oceans and oceanography, rivers and lakes, the atmosphere, weather and storms, climate and environmentalism, the solar system, the universe and cosmology, and space science.
